During the recent years a number of social movements have been formed on different issues In Armenia. Gradually, these movements are becoming more popular and includes different layers of the society.
The logical continuation of this development process is the creation of ”Dem am”(I`m against) civil initiative, that is one of the most popular social initiatives bringing together people around the idea to improve workers social and legal conditions. As a result of cooperation between the initiative and political parties the legitimacy of the law on”Cumulative pensions” was disputed at the Constitutional Court. This fact is very important for the initiative, as its members should decide their actions after the decision of the Constitutional Court, on March 28.
And now in the circles of "Dem am" initiative, the idea of creating a new, alternative trade union is being discussed. This new institute will be an alternative to the existing trade union system that with their actions prove to be unable to defend the social, legal and economic rights of employees. So the demand for formation of “real” trade unions have emerged which will deal with socio-economic and legal advocacy of employees.
The initiative “Dem am” can be “de facto” considered as an alternative trade union and it just needs “de jure” structure.
So we have to wait for the further developments of initiative “Dem am”.
